Sure, we could cut corners to make our product cheaper by using thinner materials or lower quality components, but we believe that if the material is going to resist weather, rot and pests for years to come, the construction should be such that it will not sag, warp or deteriorate with time either.
Here are some of the quality features of furniture from Cumberland Outdoor Furnishings:
- Our furniture is made with Tangent Sustainable Lumber, which is the highest quality poly lumber available from Tangent Technologies. This High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is the most durable and stiff poly material we have found. It has greater impact resistance than wood and is guaranteed to be free from pinholes, pockmarks and porosity. It is impenetrable to moisture, mold, bugs and most chemicals, and is cleaned with simple soap and water. It features UV inhibitors for fade resistant color and will not warp, splinter or crack. And of course, it is made from 95% post consumer recycled content, meeting the FTC’s certified “Green” guidelines for closed-loop product and sustainability.
- We use all stainless steel fasteners and motion components. Our stainless steel glider arms and swivels (both fabricated in the USA) glide smoothly and silently and are highly corrosion resistant. Our porch swings are offered standard with zinc plated steel chains and eyebolts, but we also offer an upgrade to stainless steel chains and eyebolts as well.
- The consoles on our gliders are mounted using nylon bearings to provide smooth, strong, silent pivoting action with no play or slop. Since the console does not rotate on threaded fasteners, it will not wallow out the pivot holes and get sloppy over time.
- The gliding motion for our gliders was modeled, engineered and optimized using professional CAD software to provide that “just right” feel.
- Our Dining Tables and 4′ and 5′ wide benches, gliders and swings are reinforced with aircraft grade, 6061-T6 aluminum for maximum strength and stiffness.
- High attention is paid to fine details, such as ensuring edges line up for smooth shapes and contours and recessing our aluminum angle components to minimize detraction from the beauty and design of the poly furniture.
